5 top reasons travel to New Europe in 2023

The 2020 covid travel crisis is now well and truly over and traveling has recommenced in earnest.

So why should you head to New Europe (region roughly east of Germany and west of Russia) this year in spite of the Russo-Ukrainian War casting a pall across the region?

For our purposes we’re going to include ‘New Europe’ as including countries like Poland, Moldova, Latvia, Lithuania and Kazakhstan, even if these countries also often included in geographical regions. To get you in the mood for traveling, here is a selection of vlogs from Moldova and Kazakhstan that I visited in 2022:

Now that you’ve enjoyed the teaser, here are my 5 reasons to visit New Europe in 2023:

1. Rich History and Culture

New Europe has a diverse and fascinating history and culture that can be seen in its architecture, museums, and traditional festivals. Countries like Poland, Ukraine and Romania have a rich history that dates back to ancient times, and you can explore their history and culture by visiting their museums, historical landmarks, and attending traditional festivals.

2. Beautiful Landscapes

New Europe is home to some of the most stunning natural landscapes in Europe. From the majestic Carpathian Mountains to the picturesque Danube River, there are plenty of natural wonders to explore. You can also visit the Baltic Coast and the Black Sea to enjoy the sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and charming seaside towns.

    3. Affordable Travel

Compared to other parts of Europe, New Europe offers affordable travel options for budget-conscious travelers and ballers alike. You can find great value accommodation, food, and transportation, making it an excellent destination for all travelers.

    4. Delicious Food and Drink

New Europe has a rich culinary tradition that is often overlooked by tourists. You can taste delicious traditional dishes like pierogis, borsch and horse meat, as well as sample local beers and wines.

    5. Off the Beaten Path

New Europe is still relatively undiscovered compared to Western Europe, making it an excellent destination for those who want to avoid crowds and explore lesser-known destinations. You can discover charming small towns, hidden gems, and unique cultural experiences that are off the beaten path.

So there you have my 5 reasons to visit New Europe in 2023. Whilst I don’t currently recommend travel to Ukraine, Belarus or Russia due to the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War, there is still plenty of amazing places to chose from in the broader region.
